S. Trimiew
S. Trimiew is a native of Virginia. A self-taught artist who began sketching pencil drawings of patrons as a child, at Loretta’s Market Inn. A diner formerly located at 18th and Franklin Street in Richmond, Va.
Today she is inspired by current events. Her choice of medium is acrylic paint on canvas. Her paintings are rooted in cultural experiences. This body of work is a continuum. It speaks to the division in our country based upon its foundation: slavery, racism, injustice, economic and educational suppression.
Inspired by the 2016 presidential election and the decisions that subsequently followed. The criminalization of a woman’s right to govern her own body? Not freedom. Freedom is having access and the ability to visually express an opinion on topics that are necessary, yet not generally welcome for discussion. We all have a duty to stand, kneel, sit, or speak out against those elements in society that are detrimental to freedom.
